Strategy

Professor Nerkar teaches in the MBA and Doctoral Programs at the Graduate School of Business, Columbia University. He teaches the core course, Strategy Formulation and two electives on innovation and intellectual property respectively in the MBA program. He also teaches the core strategy seminar for doctoral students in the Management division.

His current research focuses on the determinants of technological competence of firms. He is examining the above in the context of pharmaceutical, chemical and optical disc industries with specific emphasis on the patent portfolios of firms and the evolutionary process underlying their development.

Professor Nerkar received his PhD in the area of Strategic Management from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Prior to joining the PhD program at Wharton, he worked with the Unilever Group of Companies in India. Atul also has a Bachelors degree in Production Engineering from the University of Bombay, an MBA from the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade and an MA in Managerial Science and Applied Economics from Wharton.
