An expert on the market micro-structure of capital markets, Matthew Spiegel's research ranges widely in finance from housing markets to corporate finance, and experimental economics. He is a leading theorist whose overlapping generations models help us understand such phenomena as market volatility and what were thought to be security price deviations from fundamental values. With Professor William Goetzmann of Yale SOM, he has developed new methods for estimating housing prices indices that show that income, not racial characteristics, is the major determinant of home location choice. Professor Spiegel was formerly an Associate Professor, with tenure, at the Haas School of Business at the University of California-Berkeley. He is co-editor of the Journal of Financial Markets and former Associate Editor of the Review of Financial Studies. |
